Annapurna I (8091m) is located on the Annapurna massif of the Himalayas, in North-central Nepal. It is the 10th highest mountain peak in the world. The mountain has glaciers on its western and northwestern slopes, which drain into this gorge. Four summits make up Annapurna with the entire massif forming a barrier on the northern side of the Pokhara Valley in Nepal. The main summit stands to the west of the Annapurna Sanctuary. The major peaks on the Annapurna range is Annapurna I (8091m), Annapurna II (7937m), Annapurna III (7555m), Annapurna IV (7525m), Gangapurna (7455m) and Annapurna South (7219m).The mountain was climbed by Maurice Herzog and L.Lachenal on June 3, 1550 for the first time. It takes a more 20 years to attempt this mountain again. However, all the routes on the mountain pose severe difficulties and hence it is probably why fewer climbers have reached the summit in comparison to other 8000m peaks.
